Max Bygraves Max Bygraves was born in London, in 1922. His actual birthname was Walter William, but he earnt the nickname Max from other colleagues in the RAF after hi impressions of Max Miller proved a big hit.

After the war, his career in light entertainment started. Appearances at the London Palladium and Royal Variety Shows made him a household name and he enjoyed a string of hit singles as well as some film parts.

His first hit single was Cowpuncher's Cantata in 1952 and his most recent hit was White Christmas in 1989. He has officially retired to Australia but did make a brief comeback in 2006.
