Matt Monro Matt Monro was born in London's Shoreditch, in 1930. His borth name was Terence Parsons, and before entering showbusiness he undertook various unglamourous jobs, including most notably as a bus driver.

His smooth vocals earned him the nickname of "the British Sinatra", and he achieved international success throughout the 60s. Notable hits included "From Russia With Love", "Born Free", "On Days Like These" and he also recorded probably the best version of "Impossible Dream".

He died from cancer in 1985.
