Mario Lanza Mario Lanza was an American Tenor and star of Hollywood movies. Born in 1921, he enjoyed success through the late 40s and 50s. His operatic recordings sold millions and he was the leading man in "The Great Caruso".

He moved to Rome in 1958 to perform at the famous La Scala, but his health deteriorated and he died in 1959 at the age of only 38.
